Solace in isolation

Human beings have been confined.
Limited to how much we can take from life.
And when the world has a threshold, so does solace.
Basics have become luxuries and we live in a bare state, vulnerable to world and its armoury.
The given is no longer granted and the awareness of our fragile mortality has never been more present.
And when it all gets taken away, what is it that we seek?
Moments of happiness have been one step removed and the most basic of human instincts are illicit.
Touch – I miss this the most.
Left in a capacity of my own existence, I use inanimate comforts as substitutions.
Blankets, sheets and clothes swathe my ageing frame -
All the while demonstrating what the world cannot bring.
Each day, the same.
Each day, another reminder of what we are
when we’re on our own.
